What is the meaning of A bindi on forehead of a Hindu woman?

Dear Sai Brothers and sisters,

A simple question that bothers me wherever I go.

" what is the dot on your forehead? "

I try to explain but it becomes too lengthy an

answer and also brings up more complicated questions.

Could someone show me short and sweet, correct answer

to our tradition of " Bindi on forehead " ?
