Guest guest
Dear Narasimhayeji, You are right when you say that a body lacking in certain vitamins and minerals may have a craving for certain non-vegetarian food. I am reproducing an article from from the renowned "Bhavan's Journal" dated February 29, 2004 [Vol.50 No.14]. QUOTE Ornithologist Niall Burton was watching a family of grouse feeding in a field, in England. Some of the chicks wandered near a flock of sheep grazing nearby. Suddenly, one of the sheep ran towards the chicks, picked up one, and ate it whole. The ornithologist could not believe his eyes - a herbivore eating a bird! He thought it was unnatural. He rushed out of his hiding place and drove away the sheep. His report of the incident in the Journal British Birds drew a response from other bird- watchers who had witnessed birds or small animals being eaten by herbivores. One ornithologist theorised that grass growing in some soils may be deficient in essentail ingredients like calcium and phosphorus and sheep may occasionally eat birds to make up for the deficiency of these minerals in their diet.
