It depends on the consideration of the soul (Atman).

I think it's not. It's only through body that we realise that there is a

soul. Being in divine, life is there to be enjoyed in bliss. One will be

burdened with it till one thinks one is body. If one is not a body then

how can it's presence or absence burden one.

Knowing the true self play, dance, and sing about.

Who asks this question? For a realised soul, the body is not a burden (the body

does not exist from that reference point).

But as one yet unrealised, I to the view that the body is a vehicle to

attain realisation, and certainly not a burden.

I think this mail also deserves to be forwarded to the list. Sharat is a

great devotee of Swamiji and I was a little surprised that he would even ask

such a question.

Namaste,

You are referring to the 'upanayana' or 'yajnopavita' ceremony.

Pl. visit:

http://www.kamakoti.org/hindudharma/part17/chap1.htm

The site has over 1000 pages of text on all aspects of Hindu Dharma,

discourses given by Sw. Chandrasekharendra Sarasvati [1895-1994],

Shankaracharya of Kanchi Math [1912-1954].

sacred thread or janoi about which you wish to know.

http://www.hinduism.co.za/sacred.htm

You may ask further information if you wish on the subject and the

group shall be glad to provide it.

Namaste,

I’m so sorry for all your pain, what

a compassionate person you are to suffer for others the way you do. This is indeed a terrible world, we all know it, filled with

suffering, our compassion is all that makes the difference. The heart that feels, also can feel the

great happiness we are all seeking.

All my prayers for you and those you love.

As far as karma, it is not quite

like this creates that, it is more fluid and incomprehensible in it’s entirety.

Understanding the scriptures and what the Saints teach does not mean that it is

the fault of someone that they suffer and a good thing. Acid burns, it is

neither good nor bad, just treat the suffering and help others avoid it if you

can.

All my love, Bob Rose

Dear Karthik,

When suffering takes such proportions then reasoning can do very

little for the person experiencing the pain and it is very easy for

others to put forward theories explaining the circumstances when not

much is troubling them. But since you talked about being punished for

a sin that we don't even remember, I would like to say what I think of

it. If it so happened that we could correlate everything that happened

to us to our good or bad actions then perhaps the way we perform

actions will change. We will do good because we know that there is a

certain reward waiting for us in future and will refrain from bad

actions because of the fear of being punished. As far as I understand

our action are supposed to be an act of love without any fear, greed

or any thought of the result, and that leads to our salvation.

Nobody knows what was before and is after this life but still people

believe in the law of Karma and as I said, in difficult times such as

you mentioned, it is faith that steers us through whereas logic fails.

May God give courage to your friend and his family.

Regards,

Siddharth

Dear Karthic, Though almost everything seems terribly unjust in the world, ti ti is true also that there is God, and there is also God's grace.. I think the only way for us to overcome misery is to pray to Him to show us Truth. And that we do not remember our past sins is may be a very great chance to begin anew and to come closer to God. May be be this too is His grace. Wishing you peace, Milena

It is suffering that makes people think of God, in prosperity who bothers. Then why try to help people avoid suffering? What kind of suffering is to be avoided? Bob Rose <bobrose108 wrote: Acid burns, it is neither

Namaste,

Just because

suffering may make us turn to God it is not the only way, that is the basis for

wisdom and the meaning of discrimination.

Your own heart tells you why to help others. Should I pray for you to suffer all the agony possible? In God there is no pain but there is

pleasure so what is the way? Where

is there unending joy? And how

does it act?

All my love, bob

Namaste Melissa,

Gems do not represent any Deity. In a simple language planets represent Deities. When planets are beneficial - particular gemstone for that planet is advised to make it stronger and increase the beneficial effects, provided other conditions satisfy. If a planet is creating problem, remedy depends,

Jupiter- Sadasiva - Stone Yellow saphire

Sun- Siva - Stone Ruby

Mercury-Krishna - Stone Emarald

Moon- Gauri, Krishna, based on its position in horoscope - Stone White pearl

Saturn- Vishnu or Kali, based on its position in horoscope - Stone Blue saphire

Rahu- Durga - Stone Gomed

Ketu - Ganesha - Stone Cat's eye

Mars - Skanda, Hanuman, Kartikeya - Stone Red coral

Venus - Lakshmi - Stone Diamond

The above list does not mean that (for example) for Ganesha's blessings, one should wear a Cat's eye or for Siva's blessing one should wear a Ruby.... etc.

Regards

Jk

Jai Sri Krsna :)I'm new here. My name is Melissa, just wanted to introduce myself. This might be a bit of a strange thing to ask, considering this is a rudraksha list, but would anyone have any information on which gemstones correspond with which deities? For example, I would like to know which gems represent Maa Kali, Durga Maa, Saraswati, Laxmi, and also Visnu/Krsna, Shiva, & Ganesh. Also if possible, which stones represent the various planets, please? Thanking you all in advance, and good to make everyone's acquaintance :)best,Melissa
