Guest guest
Namaste Narasimhayeji, Thanks for your advice, fortunately I owe all three pieces in the photo. Only reason I was apprehensive about its authenticity is, I have heard of synthetic coral being factory manufactured from plastic+bone dust powder using extrusion technology. And then they color dry the end product. This Chinese are a ingenious lot. They even maker artificial Turquoise, and Jade from cheaper stones like Agate and dye them to look like turquoise and jade. I was wondering if any gurus here know from experience how a real coral would look from inside if broke into two pieces? , narasimhaye <no_reply wrote: > > Namaste Baj, > > Great to hear you've got a 3-inch long red coral. I'm not a gemologist and Rudra Centre is right in suggesting that you approach the American Gem Institute for verification even though it will cost $80. It depends on how much you paid for the piece to the vendor. If its expensive, then obtaining advice from the American Gem Institute will be well worth in determining the coral's genuity and its right cost. > > Meanwhile, the picture you uploaded to the Photos section looks clear and if your piece is the one on the left side which is longer than the other two, then its got a good chance of being genuine as its two branches spread out like branches reminiscent of what is found in coral reefs and ocean floors. Good luck! > > om Namah Shivaya > > > , " bajkhedawal " wrote: > > > > I have come in possession of a 3 inch long Red Coral from a Chinese source. I want to verify its authenticity and asked Rudra Center for their expert advice. They suggested I go to American Gem Institute, but their cost of verifying is $80.00 and its way too expensive. > > > > Can the learned people here help me, by verbal advice as to how a genuine Red Coral should: look, feel, sound (I did a drop test on it and it sounds like glass, did not break though) > > > > I have uploaded a photograph of what I have under the " Photos " section, album named " Baj " photo called " 20090718_155744RedCoral " > > > > Please look at the photo and advice, Thanks! > > >
