Bhagavatham Saptaham: April 19-26, 2010 The annual Bhagvatham Saptaham will be held at the Puthur Shiva Temple in Perintalmanna from April 19-26, 2010. There will be discourses, dramas, and chanting in praise of Lord Krishna. Prasadam will be distributed all day, every day and Annadanam will be served daily between noon and 2.00 p.m. If you have relatives in Kerala please ask them to attend. We will be putting up the program details on the website: www.puthurshivatemple. blogspot. com (without the spaces) so people can plan their day. The goal of this saptaham is to fill the devotees with love and devotion and ultimately free us from the cycles of birth and death. Be sure to visit Lord Venugopalamurthy (Lord Krishna's) sannidhi at the back of the main temple. His beautiful, smiling face is covered in sandal paste at Deeparadhana time and is something not to be missed. _______ 2. 1001 Kodum Dhara The Puthur Shiva Temple is conducting 1001-Kodum Dhara for those undergoing heavy karma. The more popular vazhivadu is the 101 kodum dhara but the 1001 Kodum Dhara is being increasing requested by devotees. During this elaborate ceremony a huge pot with a hole is hung on top of the shiva lingam. 101 (or 1001) pots of sanctified water is poured into this pot. The hole is blocked with several kusha grass which are removed one at a time depending on how much water the priests want to fall on the lingam as they chant powerful, sacred mantras for our well being. The water cools the Shiva Lingam and blesses participants with peace of mind, job security, good health, and find suitable partners for those who want to be married. In short, the Dhara brings Aiswarya or prosperity. It blesses sponsors so they can lead a peaceful and contented household life free from worries and troubles. _______ 3. About the Puthur Shiva Temple in Perintalmanna, Kerala http:// puthurshivatemple. blogspot. com (without the spaces) The Sree Vellat Puthur Shiva Temple is only an hour away from the famous Guruvayoor Temple in Kerala, yet very few people know about this very powerful Shiva temple nestled, almost hidden, in a tiny town called Perintalmanna, in the Western Ghats in Kerala. Astrological recordings found at the site show that the temple was consecrated by yogis over 1500 years ago and the Sakti of Goddess Parvathi is hidden in the Siva Lingam. The recordings show that the deity should be worshiped as Lord Parama Siva and that all those who worship at this temple will attain supreme bliss. Those who worship here attest to the intense power of the deity to cure mental disorders, ward off dangers, and bless devotees with a smooth run of life in the family. The great sanctity of the Siva Lingam here is that the Lord is associated with his aspects i.e. Dakshinamurthy, Kirathamurthy and Sankaranarayana murthy, the murtis of whom are installed in the temple as upa devatas and in shrines of their own. The other upa devatas in the temple are Ganesha, Subramanian, Sasthavu and Naga prathista. Lord Krishna Previously Lord Krishna as Venugopalamurthy was worshipped in the temple as an upadevata. In 1978, an Ashtamangalya Prasna conducted in the temple found that Venugopalamurthy (Krishna) should be worshipped treating the lord as the second main deity of the temple. Accordingly a new temple for Venugopalamurthy (Krishna) was constructed in the temple compound in 1980. The murti of Venugopalamurthy( Krishna) is beautiful. At the time of Deeparadhana the smiling face of the Lord is bedecked with sandal paste and crowned with a diadem and the Lord reveals his blissful nature and devotees feel his grace. This may be the reason the temple has been attracting people from around the world. Sree Thirumandham Kunnu Bhagavathi Another specialty of this temple is the presence of Sree Thirumandham Kunnu Bhagavathi. The Goddess is so beautiful and powerful that she is to be experienced. As an act of reverence to the Bhagavathi, a Tantric ritual known as " Kalamezhuthu and Kalampattu " for Sree Bhadrakali is conducted in this temple for more than 90 days ending with the Thalapoli Festival on Karthika day in the month of Meenom every year. By worshipping the main deities, Lord Siva and Venugopalamurthy( Krishna), and the Upa Devatas in the temple, the devotees can lead a peaceful and contented household life free from worries and troubles ____________ _________ _________ _________ _ 5.
