My humble pranams at the divine lotus feet of our ever-present and ever-loving

Sri Sathya Sai Baba!

A dog's example of love and loyalty

" Let me tell you a story from my early years. I was then staying in the old

mandhir in Puttaparthi. An english couple were living with at that time. They

presented me with a couple of puppies. They said that that the presence of the

puppies with Swaami would give them the feeling that they were with swaami even

when they were away. I accepted the puppies. They had been named Jack and Jill.

How did they live with me? At night i went to bed, one would sleep near my head

and the other at my feet. The Maharani came to putaparthi from mysore, and told

the driver and informed swaami that she would not partake any food if she heard

a dog's bark. Jack was to go with the driver because the driver went to swami's

residence to have food and return back at night and swaami had told jack to lead

the way. In the early morning the driver was in a rush to start the car and Jack

was still sleeping under the car. The car ran over Jack and his spine was broken

and was bleeding profusely. It dragged itself all the way to the gates and the

watchman said " Swaami Swaami Jack's spine is broken and he is bleeding. " Swami

came rushing and gave milk to Jack and Jack gave his two paws to swami's hand

that was outstretched and gave it's life to Swaami. What amount of devotion in

an animal!! "

Jai Sai Ram!!
