The ancient Indian scriptures have declared that an individual can attain immortality by thyaaga (renunciation) alone and not by any other means, actions, wealth or progeny. What is it that has to be renounced? One has to renounce one's bad qualities... To manifest their inherent divine nature, people have to cultivate love of God, develop fear of sin and adhere to sanghaneethi (social morality). When one has fear of sin and love of God, he/she will not indulge in immoral acts. Thereby morality in society will automatically be ensured.

- Divine Discourse, June 5, 1994.
