AUM SAI RAM

Hans

Kristen was an only child. He lived with his Mum and his Dad in Joperlan, a

village surrounded by mountains and fjords in Norway. He was eight years old and

he was very, very lonely .He secretly cherished the dream of having a play

mate. His Mum had told him that he should always believe in his dreams.

During the summer season, when the days were

extremely long, he would spend his time fishing for crabs and shrimps in the

fjord which bordered his garden. He rarely caught any crab or shrimp, but he was

patient and resolute.

One day,

when Hans Kristen was waiting for a catch, he heard a giggle behind his back.

He turned his head to have a look. He came face to face with a little girl with

golden hair, blue eyes, strawberry lips and silky, white skin.

"Aloo! God Morgen!" she

greeted him, smiling broadly and displaying her pearl white teeth.

"Hey! God Morgen!"

replied Hans Kristen.

Soon they

were playing together and having loads of fun. Hans Kristen had never been so

happy in all his life. He did not notice that time was flying. Suddenly, the

little girl told him that she had to leave.

"Give me

your address! I will write to you!" said Hans Kristen

"Write a

note, fold it and put it in a bottle. Then throw the bottle in the fjord. Your

message will reach me" the little girl replied.

In so

saying, she plunged into the cool water. Only then, Hans Kristen noticed her

gleaming, blue tail! She was a mermaid!

Somehow his

dream had come true…
