Guest guest Posted September 29, 2008 Report Share Posted September 29, 2008 The Most Sacred Navaratri festival commences on Tuesday, September 30th for 9 days ending with VijayaDasami on the 10th day to celebrate the winning of Virtue over Evil, on Thursday, October 9th. From 1-3 days: The first 3 days are dedicated to Goddess Durga, the Goddess of power and energy. Her various manifestations - Kumari, Parvathi and Kali are all worshiped during three days. They represent the 3 different classes of womanhood which include the child, the young girl and the mature woman. From 4-6 days: During these days, Sri MahaLakshmi, the Goddess of peace and prosperity is worshiped. On the 5th day, known as Lalita Panchami. it is traditional to gather and display all literature available in the home, light a lamp and invoke Goddess Saraswati The Supreme Goddess of knowledge and art. 7-8 days: The final days belong to Goddess Saraswati who is worshiped to acquire the Spiritual Knowledge. On the 8th day of this Sacred and colourful festival, Yagna is performed. Ghee, Kheer and sesame seeds form the Holy Offering to Goddess Durga . MAHA-NAVAMI: The final day of Navaratri culminates in Maha-Navami. On this day Kanya Puja or Suvasini Puja is performed. The 9 forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped.
