Dear Ramakrishna devotees,

it is such a pleasure to read your opinions and understandings.

especially the ones on karma. may i suggest a book my Sw.

Abhedanandaji called " The Doctrine Of Karma " it is a very good book

no doubt, but it also goes a long way to clear our understanding of

Karma as a yoga.

one of the professors i had lent the book to read had this to say

" it is a post doctoral explanation of karma "

kind regards

Abhijit

Dear Sriram,

I think your questions about "karma" are very complicated (atleast for me) and it is difficult to be answered to them. I could say two things that I think.

First, if a man knew exactly the real causes of his suffering in his present life (i.e he knew the law of karma and its principles of action), he would has never begun to search a way out of his suffering and he would has never come to the understanding that all his suffering is unreal and hence, may be, to the faith in God. I think, if that man knew the real reasons of his misery, he would has had the clear view that all his sufferings are the natural results of a natural law - then, he would has had two main modes of action or behaviour - to accept his miseries and act in such a way in which he could avoid future sufferings. But through these modes of action he could not avoid his present sufferings. (because, after all, every man's aim, in one way or another, is to save himself from suffering - in that search, I think, some people come to the idea and the faith in God, and others - not).

And second - if a man, causing suffering to another, "fully realised his pain", as you say, he would has never caused that suffering, or if he all the same has done this, he would has suffered much because of that. If he acts in this way, he moves away from the main aim of man - salvation from his sufferings or in other words - away from the idea and faith in God.

I don't know, may be these things are not quite true, that is what I think.

With best wishes,Milena

Sai Ram All,

Karma, Swami says, cannot be taken lightly. Only when you have knowledge of karma - you will relise how important it is.

Karma kanthamala - the garland of past karmas around our necks when we are born - plays its prasad - good or bad from time to time. Can you believe - that majority of our actions is in REACTION to this karma prasad.

Swami had said that when we are equaliminded - karma negates itself. Use discrimination to be equal minded. Karmic prasad may give you a handful of rice or sugar or problems - it is how we handle these will make a difference what we are sowing - good seeds of bad seeds.

You have a right to action - and no right to the fruits of action - but an assurance that every action will bear fruit, which will be dispensed by the Almighty at a place and at a time known to only the Almighty.

Sai Ram - please feel free to ask any questions.
