Guest guest
Natural calamities do occur as we all abuse Nature left & right for our selfish needs and we need to expect these calamities in this world but they may vary in severity and this time it came in a big way for almost 100 years, so they say, The scenes are really frightening especially if we are in that situation. What can we do? Any thing to alleviate the suffering of our children, elderly and our sisters & brothers especially cows in hundreds which we cannot accept by any standards without the fault of their own. Those of us who are not aware of this disaster yet, please click the link to read and watch some of the scenes http://teluguone.com/teluguoneFoundation/ As the Krishna and tributaries floods shows signs of waning, some of the villages have begun to surface from the flood waters while some are still underwater. Those returning to their villages/towns and homes are being welcomed by the following1) 3 to 4 feet of mud, dirt (burada) everywhere, making transportation still impossible.2) Dead donkeys, pigs, bandicoots, snakes, cows and even humans bloated and rotting3) Complete lack of electricity, drinking water, food, clothing, absolutely nothing left.4) Houses ravaged by flood waters, now filled almost to the roof with mud and dirt, every belonging either washed away or destroyed.5) Every shop/business in the flood hit areas completely destroyed. Losses amounting to lakhs and crores. If the flood has done anything to mankind in the 5 districts, it has made everyone equal, it has turned everyone into beggars/paupers. Crorepathis and lakhpatis are now homeless and beggars like everyone else. At least 2 million people have been left with just the clothes they are wearing and nothing else!!6) Damage to every sphere of civilization, you name it, it's gone now....transport, education, health services (private and public), industry, business, agriculture etc etc and etc, all set back to pre-historic times literally. There is so much mud and dirt on lakhs and lakhs of hectares of agricultural land that it would be impossible to grow anything for months or years. Everything now has to start from scratch.7) On top of all this bandits/robbers had a field day as the floods receded, looting everything left and right. Some of those starving and not receiving any aid whatsoever are resorting to crime to live another day.8) And absolutely no one to turn to, it is as if there never existed anything called a government or an administration. No govt officers/officials visiting the flood hit areas, people left to fend themselves on their own. The media was probably the only organisation which did good apart from the NGO's and the few military units pressed into service.9) The thousands of relief centres set up in the 5 districts have turned into hellholes, with no electricity, little or no drinking water, sparse and unclean food, overpopulated, littered with human excrement everywhere due to lack to proper toilets, humans and animals living together including scorpions, snakes etc. (2 people died of scorpion stings in one such relief centre).10) All the main roads have sustained damage in 5 districts. The NH7, NH5 are completely destroyed in some sections. This is hampering relief measures further. Numerous smaller roads have simply disappeared!A catastrophe, a holocaust a devastation so widespread, it is beyond everyone's comprehension. And the vultures are waiting eagerly. Typhoid, Cholera, Gastroenteritis and their colleagues among the vast plethora of diseases are just waiting in the wings to feed on the large population at risk. Prevention is no more possible, containment seems a more realistic word, but will the government, and the public be able to cope with the certainty of human disease that is to follow? If orbiting satellites had captured images of the Krishna and tributary belts in the last 3 days, maps would have had to be redrawn, it was almost as if a megagiant tsunami had hit and gone inland into A. P.There are no words to describe the human suffering in these 5 districts. The Sathya Sai Seva Dal have done the Greatest work in the Flood ravaged Districts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. They have been the first people to reach the areas and give food and clothing to the effected people. Let us Salute our Dear Sai Brothers and Sisters who braved the huge Natural calamity to help people trapped by floods in these areas of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The Seva Dal came in for great Praise from many quarters for their wonderful work in these dreaded times.
