Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta  Personal views:  Man who has not overcome Moha or illusion is insecure and possessive about money. He believes that money earned by him is his, and that others have no claim on it, and that he has control over his money and that it will help and protect him when he is in difficulties. I too believed this.  Sri Swamiji’s mission is to relieve us of this deluded idea. When asked to give for this or that, man feels irritated, especially if a return of equal or higher value is not assured, either materially or otherwise. That is because of a business approach that pervades worldly transactions. Sri Swamiji is not a businessman. He has dedicated his life to help us see the Truth, to acquire spiritual knowledge which has no place in it for business deals. The unhappiness arises from someone else trying to take away “his†money, and depriving him of “his†prasadam. It is our ignorance that makes us think that it is ‘our’ money. It is our ignorance also that makes us think that by giving it we are ‘helping’ others. We are only helping ourselves. Our expectation of what we believe is our due, makes us disappointed when we do not get it. What eventually we receive from Sri Swamiji for the few pennies we give, is something priceless! When a person thinks that others are trying to impress Sri Swamiji by attracting funds, sevaks, or popularity, he forgets that these volunteers may perhaps be mere puppets in Sri Swamiji’s hands or that they all may in fact be Sri Swamiji’s own different forms! We have witnessed many times Sri Swamiji’s incredible manifestations! If it is for our protection that at a particular time we should sacrifice our selfish interest for a good cause, Sri Swamiji sends a message through someone to make a suggestion to us. It is up to us to utilize this message from God.  If they are devotees who have been asked to do this seva of soliciting funds for a good cause, then it is that devotee’s challenge, a spiritual sadhana to ask without inhibition and without fear of receiving abuse and insults. To expect more by way of an organized approach out of such a devotee who is already struggling, may be futile. If the volunteers are successful in their attempts at either collecting funds or participation in sevas, it is because of Sri Swamiji’s grace, and not because of their talent or effort, or the donor’s generosity. The donor becomes a donor only by Sri Swamiji’s grace, when he is blessed to become generous and is given the resources. Sri Swamiji has said that his appointed workers are his limbs, that they are parts of himself. (How else can one explain the phenomenal energy and mental resources and skills that some of them sometimes demonstrate!) I was there when once in Sri Swamiji’s presence prasadam was being given by an assistant and I heard a devotee say, “Please Swamiji, give me the prasadam with your own handâ€. Swamiji’s reply was, “That is also my handâ€. Swamiji has told us repeatedly, “I am here to try to wash away your sins that are sticking to you like dirt. How can I, if you do not allow me, if you refuse to strip your garments, which are in the form of your strong attachments to your possessions? I am trying to come up with a variety of ideas to make you take away your coats and jackets so that I can reach you.†All the sevas, pujas, homas, and sponsorships for this, that, and the other are all different opportunities that Sri Swamiji is giving us. Different activities for people of different interests and inclinations. He is trying to entice us to loosen our grip on our attachment to money. Our participation even in a small way would allow him to get close to us so that he can gently scrub away our dirt that we have gathered over countless lifetimes which has totally blinded us to Spiritual Truth, and manifests in this lifetime as difficulties. My personal experience is that by giving to Sri Swamiji’s multi-varied projects, I have become more secure in my faith that when a true need arises, it is not money but Sri Swamiji’s grace that saves us in the most unexpected ways. As Sri Swamiji says, He is the safest bank in which to make our deposits and investments. In this uncertain world, I certainly believe that to be true. It boils down to having complete faith in Sri Swamiji who is Lord Dattatreya Himself, who is an Avadhoota, who is ever free, all pervasive, all knowing, all powerful, and an ocean of compassion. The bottom line is to trust that He knows how to run His ashram and its branches, how to manage and uplift His volunteers and devotees, and how to influence the doubters in a positive way in the long run, even if it requires that they have to be rubbed the wrong way now and then, and their patience be severely tested. It is a time taking process that requires an immense lot of internal churning, risk-taking, sacrifice, and an intense love for Sadgurudeva on the part of the devotee.  I pray to our sadgurudeva to gently and patiently guide us all through the turbulent waves of doubt, irritation, disapproval, insecurity, and confusion in this ocean of samsara.  I beg forgiveness if I have upset anyone with the above comments. Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta I think our Dear Hira's comments are point on. This explains my feelings as well. I thought to add that my initial reaction to this man's concerns was the question, " Is he a devotee of Sri Swamiji or another sincere seeker? " There are many who to this discussion group who are of the latter category. What I would say to this man: Drown your self in the most beautiful gifts (keys) Sri Swamiji has given in the form of bhajans, healing music, books, videos, etc. There is no greater, nor simpler, method for gaining His Divine Grace during this crazy Kali Yuga. If you do this without analyzing, His Loving omnipresence as Lord Dattatreya begins to shine more brightly than you could ever imagine... This is my experience.
