Guest guest
The Old Men With An Oil Can THERE WAS AN OLD man who could not do any productive work, but who carried a little can of oil with him, wherever he went. If he passed by a gate or adoor which squeaked, he poured a little oil on the hinges. He moved on, from place to place, lubricating all the hard joints and making it easier for thosewho came after him. People called him cranky, but he was not perturbed. He went on filling his oil can as soon as it was empty. He kept on lubricating the hinges that squeaked. He has left a lesson for us. There are a number of lives that squeak and creak, for they have not known the love. Let us lubricate them with the oil oflove and peace and joy. Let us soften them with the grease of gladness and gentleness and helpfulness. As you begin the day, look out for someone who needs a touch of gentleness, a word of cheer, a message of courage. Lubricate the lives of those aroundyou with the oil of loving kindness. Flash a sunny smile to a dejected soul: it may make all the difference to him.
