Guest guest
A Change of Attire Once, Gandhiji and Kasturba were visiting a village. While Gandhiji was busy talking to the men, Ba went among the women and spoke to them of cleanlinessand personal hygiene. "You must bathe every day," she told them earnestly, "and change into clean, washed clothes." A poor woman took Ba into her hut and said to her, "Ba, the only clothes I have are these which I'm wearing now. How can I change clothes and wash themdaily?" Ba was profoundly moved by the woman's plight. She spoke of the incident to Gandhiji later that day. "What can we do for them?" she asked him in anguish. During those days Gandhiji used to wear the traditional Indian clothes dhoti, kurta, angavastra andturban. Forthwith he decided that he would wear only a loincloth from then on for so many of his brothers and sisters had no clothes on their backs!
