The jiva's head touching the feet of Shiva signifies the surrender of his or her ego and merger of Jeevatma and Paramatma. Sacred thoughts enter the mind of a devotee by virtue of the contact with His holy feet. Padnamaskar virtually means an attitude of surrender to the teacher's instructions and guidance.
