Today Monday, April 27th is the most auspicious day with a number of notable and sacred events which include :

 

Akshaya Trutiya,Parasurama Jayanti and Balarama Jayanti and the sacred day of Ganga Snan(Bath). In Treta Yuga when wealth and power corrupted the Kshitriyas and they started oppressing and tormenting the other casts, including killing the Brahmins, Lord Parashuram, the 6th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, worshipped Lord Shiva and got the divine axe with which HE killed the evil Kshitriyas and restored Dharma.

 

It is Parashurama who first gave the Srividya – Srichakra worship to the world in his treatise known as the Parashurama Kalpa Sooktam.

 

He fought the advancing ocean and saved the lands of Konkan and Malabar - the Maharashtra - Karnataka - Kerala west coastline. He created a temple of worship in Kerala and taught the famous martial arts "Kalari Payattu"

The very sacred period of Vaisakha Masam or Month in 2009 – starts on Sunday April 26th and ends on Sunday May 24th. As the deity of the Vaisakha Month Vaisakh is Lord Madhusudana (Lord Vishnu),it is most auspicious to worship Lord Vishnu.

 

The prayer of Vaishakh Masam is as follows

Lord Balarama, is the elder brother and the first expansion of Lord Krishna. Together Krishna and Balaram enacted many pastimes as cowherd boys in the land of Brindavan. Lord Balarama carries a plow and club and is known for His great strength. The devotees offer special prayers to Lord Balaram on this day to receive spiritual strength from Him.

Devotees celebrate this appearance day of Lord Balarama by fasting till noon and chanting Hare Krishna Mahamantra.
