Guest guest Posted May 20, 2009 Report Share Posted May 20, 2009  By Express News Service  20 May 2009 08:35:14 AM ISTSavings plan for daily mofussil ( suburban and rural areas ) travellers.Transport Minister R Ashok flags off the newly-designed KSRTC/BMTC buses at KSRTC Central Office in Bangalore on Tuesday. KSRTC vice-chairman Jaggesh.BANGALORE: KSRTC and BMTC together have introduced integrated KSRTC-BMTC daily passes, which facilitate a concessional travel in mofussil services as well as in city services, announced Minister for Transport, R Ashok, here on Tuesday.In the first phase, the facility has been provided for services connecting 11 towns to Bangalore combined with BMTC services.Commuters can save around 30 per cent in fares by using these daily passes.Control room In case of an accident or suspicious activities at bus stops, the KSRTC control rooms can be informed on the phone number - 080-22221164. KSRTC has started the control room to immediately gather information so that accident victims can be attended to fast. It will also help to keep a check on terrorist and other unlawful activities at bus stops, said the minister.KSRTC has inducted 30 new Airavata buses (9400 Series Volvo) into its fleet. The new buses have four emergency exits and an emergency door on the right hand side for quick exit. The buses have a luggage space of 10 cubic metres, LCD TV, besides mobile and laptop charging points on-board. Each of the newly-designed buses costs the KSRTC Rs 67 lakh.These buses will ply on Chennai, Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Shirdi, Bellary, Shimoga, Mysore and Virajpet routes, in addition to routes from Bangalore and Mangalore to Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune, Ashok said.The minister said “We have written to the Deputy Commissioner seeking permission to operate Volvo buses on the Mangalore-Manipal route.
