AUM SAI RAM

“Some of you may feel that it is glorious for the Lord to come in human form. If you were in my place, you would not feel so glorious. For, I am aware of the past, present and future of every one of you. Therefore, I am not moved by mercy. I know why a person suffers in this birth, what it is the consequence of. So, I react differently from you; you may call me either cold-hearted or soft-hearted. I do not cause joy or grief; you design the chains that bind you, both gold and iron.”- Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

Baba is known for many miraculous healings, too many to mention. Some are healed instantly when He utters the magical words:-

“You will be healed!” or “It won’t bother you anymore!”or “Your cancer is cancelled!”

However, some people, to whom He pronounced the words, instead of healing died from the illness. It took me a long time to understand what was obvious. Death was the healing for the disease of life. When crippled with disease, the life of somebody had become atrocious and unbearable; death was the healing prescribed by God. Death releases one of all diseases, all worries and of all sufferings.

I had for a long time, wondered and blamed God for taking the life of my youngest sister, Minoo.  She was fourteen when I returned to Mauritius as a newly qualified Barrister. Soon after, she fell ill. She had a kidney failure which was diagnosed as a side effect of the dreadful disease called ‘lupus’. I accompanied her to London in 1972 for intensive treatment which was not available locally. An ambulance came to collect her at the airport and drove her to Hammersmith Hospital. She stayed there for one month and died without leaving the hospital for a single day. The only relative at her side, when she passed, I had the heart breaking task of performing her funeral rites.

I sadly recalled that I was asked by my family to pray to a miracle man and healer, Brother Mandamus, for the recovery of my sister. I was handed over a picture of the healer which I kept under her pillow. I prayed from morning to night but Minoo died with my name on her lips as she breathed her last. I blamed myself for her death over many years. I wished I had spent more time with her and loved her more. I wished I could save her life. Six years later, Baba came to my life. He taught me the real meaning of ‘life’. He showed me that Minoo was healed by death and my mother too. Already, a living corpse, she died of grief after Minoo passed. Death came as a divine blessing to both of them. I should be thankful to God.

“Diseases and the ensuing sufferings are your own making” says Baba. " You cannot escape the Law of Karma.”However, Baba can will the suffering to stop either by a miraculous cure or by sudden death.

“Do good. Be good. See good” says Baba. As you sow, so you reap!

On her death bed in the Intense Care Unit, my sister, with her swollen back and face, appeared to me as a strange being. I could not find an explanation for that incredible and horrifying phenomenon. I fainted and was virtually carried from the unit. Was she possessed by the Devil? – However, she rose from the coma state where she was plunged and vomited bucketfuls of blood. She then returned to the normal sweet lassie that she really was. But she was gone. An angelic smile on her pretty face, she had peacefully left for Heaven. Did Baba release her from the pangs of the evil spirits which had a grip on her? Did Baba give her liberation? He did. The omnipresent Baba had been with me always as the God within, answering very prayer.
