Guest guest
Apart from preparing 88 candidates to sit for GCSE examination on Hinduism, our centre is also preparing 7 candidates to sit for an Advanced Supplementary examination on Hinduism set by the London University. Part of the course requires studying the teachings of: - Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Sri Gandhij and Dr Radhakrishnan. The board suggested that Dr Radhakrishnan is one of the important figureheads of Hindu renaissance. We had bit of fun with the London University Board - we said with other figures we can agree with this statement but we think Dr Radhakrishnan is more of a philosopher, an orator perhaps a great political figure but a renaissance figure? The board responded by saying well then your candidates can give a good explanation why he cannot be considered to be a good renaissance figure of Hinduism. We are not trying to be critical of the board. In fact we have found them to be quite focused and receptive to all serious dialogue. What we would like to emphasize is that the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna have entered into the mainstream teachings of Hinduism in this country.
