Guest guest
We have many list members who run classes etc. in many different parts of the world. Some on them wanted to know what kind of examinations do our candidates have to sit for and what kind of questions they have to answer. Here is a small selection of questions we had for both Ordinary and Advanced level examinations held earlier this week. Ordinary level questions: Explain how belief in karma may affect a Hindu's attitude to life. Explain why Hindus refer to their religion as sanatan dharma. Give an outline of hindu teaching about Brahman What is smriti? Give outline of one of the teachings of the Yoga school. What kind of writings do the Upanishads contain? Give an account of one of the samskars. What religious values are important in the first of the four ashrams. Advanced Level questions (candidates expected to write essays on each of the following -- time allocated per question is 50 minutes): - Compare and contrast the contributions to the modern development and expression of Hinduism of the following: Ramakrishna and Dayananda Sarasvati. Analyse the key ideas from the following verse of the Katha Upanishad 'Having received this wisdom taught by the King of death and the entire process of yoga. Nachiketa became free from impurities and death and attained Brahman.' Examine the distinctive features of the techniques of Yoga and discuss the aims of yoga. Analyse the teachings of Bhakti from the set text in the Bhagavad Gita - discuss the significance of these teachings in the development of Hinduism. etc.... If any groups wish to arrange for these examinations to be held for their candidates, in their own countries; we may be able to arrange something via London University. jay
