Guest guest
Thanks very much for clarifying that 'Kali Yuga' means 'Age of Strife and/or Quarrel' and not 'Age of Darkness'. I do not have sufficient background in Sanskrit. I am presently studying it. Kind regards. omtatsat <omtatsat ramakrishna <ramakrishna > Saturday, July 03, 1999 6:30 PM [ramakrishna] Ramakrisha Digest 122 ><omtatsat > >Hello everyone! > >Swami Yogeshananda Hari OM! > > > > >Re: Fri, 2 Jul 1999 14:21:20 +0200 > " Shankar " <shankar > Re: Thakur & Upanishads-4 > > It is true that Sri Ramakrishna says that the Path of Devotion is the easiest in > this Kali Yuga, the Age of Darkness. >***************************************************** >Tom Comments: > >On page 210 of srimad-bhAgavatam [canto 1, ch4] >[the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust], I read: > PURPORT > " ...The birth of mahArAja pareeksit is wonderful because in the womb of his mother he was protected by the Personality of Godhead Sri Krsna. Guest guest
Dear Tom, That is correct. kali is the yuga; it means " iron " , darkness, strife etc. whereas kAlee, long A and I, is a name of the Devi (who, we know, has both sides to her nature, the benign and the terrifying.) Hari Om, namaste, Swami Yogeshananda
Guest guest
Dear friends, In what way this age could be called age of 'darkness'? I feel: Kali-Yuga means a peculiar situation in the evolution of human intellect where extreme materialism and intense spirituality coexist. Can any one deny the wonderful achievements of Science! (Copernicus, Galileo, Newton, Einstein, Pasteur, and etc. etc.) And, Can anyone deny the spiritual greatness of Sri Ramakrishna!
