Re: Thakur & Upanishads-4

It is true that Sri Ramakrishna says that the Path of Devotion is

the easiest in

this Kali Yuga, the Age of Darkness.

Tom Comments:

On page 210 of srimad-bhAgavatam [canto 1, ch4]

[the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust], I read:

PURPORT

" ...The birth of mahArAja pareeksit is wonderful because in the womb of his

mother he was protected by the Personality of Godhead Sri Krsna. His activities

are also wonderful because he chastised Kali, who was

attempting to kill a cow. To kil cows means to end

human civilization. He wanted to protect the

cow from being killed by the great representative

of sin.... "

Now, I sent off an e-mail to the boys and girls

of ISKON, asking for a clarification of this

statement by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami PrabhupAda.

I mentioned, in my message, that there are countless

numbers of souls worldwide, who regard kAleemA

as one with Brahman...so how can she be termed as

" the great representative of sin " ?

To my delight, I received the gratification of an immediate answer; explaining

that the 'kali', referred to by Sreela PrabhupAda, is not referring to the

Divine Mother.

They went on to explain that the word 'kali' in Sanscrit, denotes 'strife' or

quarrel, whereas kAlee [long 'A', long 'E'], refers to the 'Dark One " , the

Divine Mother.

This was news to me, as I had always connected,

in my mind, the 'Kali Yuga' with kAleemA.

So, it means 'age of quarrel', rather than age of

darkness.

Just wanted to share that bit of info with you.

Tom
