Guest guest
RE: Message: 2 5 Jul 1999 12:33:33 -0000 mmagesh Memorable events from the life of Swami Vivekananda - 3 " ............What is striking is, he did not discriminate in the matters of charity. He would give financial aid even to drug addicts. Narendranath noticed this and once drew his father's attention to this gross misuse of money. At this Vishwanath said: 'Life is full of suffering, my son. When you grow up you will realise this yourself and will have pity even on addicts or those who take to drink and other vices to get temporary relief from the endless miseries of life.'........ " ----------------------- Taken from the book " My India The India Eternal " published by The Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Calcutta. COMMENT FROM TOM: Thank you for the foregoing excellent quote. It reminds me of the following quote from Sri Saradamani Devi, excerpted from " In the Company of the Holy Mother " published by Swami Ananyananda, President, Advaita Ashrama, Mayavati, Pithoragarh, Himalayas: _______________ The Holy Mother said: " Mani Mallick had been to see the monks in North India; and the Master had asked him, 'well, what did you think of them?' He answered, 'I saw them, but....' 'But what?' 'They all ask for money.' The Master said, 'how much money? Perhaps a pice or so to buy tobacco and ganja, that's all. You need your cupfulls of milk and ghee and other things and he wants only a pice or two for his tobacco or ganja. Is that too much? Must you alone enjoy things and they not even get a piceworth of tobacco?'......... " ___________________ COMMENT: Let us perhaps, take a moment of silence, to reflect on the sufferings, inflicted by western society, on those souls, who must undergo searches, imprisonment and other indignities; in order to enable our 'present-day monks', to have their 'piceworth of ganja'. I am sure that Lord Shiva Mahadeva Nataraj has not forgotten them.
