Corruption Vs. Purity in Action

'Corruption' clearly implies either an entire absence of or a perversion of,

'purtiy' in action.

Here is a literal translation of ten couplets in Tamil (kural) portraying the

necessity and significance of 'purity' in action.

651 'Goodness of association' will give wealth, 'goodness of action' will

give all (that is) needed.

652 Always (one) must avoid action, not yielding 'good' alongwith 'fame'.

653 One saying, '(I) will rise (higher)', must give up doing action,

destroying 'fame'.

654 One with unwavering vision will not do 'lowly' works, even when stumbling

upon 'difficuties'.

655 Do not do works, making one repent, 'Of what kind (are these works)?'. If

one happens to do (such works), it is good not to do similar things (in future).

656 Even when witnessing the 'hunger' of one's mother, may one not do the

'wise-deriding' deed !

657 The overwhelming 'poverty' of the wise is better than the wealth obtained

by wearing 'blame'.

658 For one having done, persisting in, (and) without 'severing', the

'condemned' (works), even if those (works) get completed, will give sorrow.

659 All that was had with (the) cries (of others), will go with (our) cries;

even if lost, those (so lost) will yield 'the good' later.

660 To protect material made with 'cunning vile', is like pouring water in

the fresh(ly baked) mud-pot, (for storing it therein).
