I once had what I believe was an inner contact with Swami Vivekananda. I was going through an extremely difficult time, when I was continually so weak I could hardly work and get through the day. Once, taking a break, I felt his presence and the thought, " Keep on, brother! " (not in words, just the essence of it). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Namaste Steve, I beleive that we are continuously absorbing. When we have assimilated, by reading or hearing the words of Sri Swami Vivekananda, we may draw, at will, from this storehouse of memory. In other words, we have 'internalized' that portion of Swamiji. We no longer see him as outside ourselves, but rather an intrinsic part of our very being. At a young age, having been brought up in a devout family, the words of another Personage, were absorbed. Whenever I start to slip from the 'Ideal', in my relationships with other embodied souls, the resonant words, of my late father, come through loud and clear: " Remember, Tom, the words of Our Saviour: 'Love one another, as I have loved you' " So, where is my late father ? Where is Sri Swami Vivekananda ? A portion of each dwells within me. They have become a part of my 'super ego' [acquired social experience]. Here is an interesting quote from Sri Swami Vivekananda, concerning reincarnation: {inspired talks August 1, 1895] ********************************************************************** There are endless series of manifestations, like " merry-go-rounds, " in which the souls ride, so to speak. The series are eternal; individual souls get out, but the events repeat themselves eternally and that is how one's past and future can be read, because all is really present. When the soul is in a certain chain, it has to go through the experiences of that chain. From one series souls go to other series; from some series they escape for ever by realising that they are Brahman. By getting hold of one prominent event in a chain and holding on to it, the whole chain can be dragged in and read. This power is easily acquired, but it is of no real value and to practise it takes just so much from our spiritual forces. Go not after these things. Worship God. ********************************************************************** om shanthi om, Tom _____________________________ ____ 123India - India's Premier Search Engine Get your Free Email Account at http://www.123india.com
