Guest guest
Hello everyone, I have been reading with interest and, a bit of amusement, the discussions about meat-eating. Swamiji ate meat. I don't really understand what the big deal is about. We should all eat what suits our system and our beliefs. After all, if you really stop and think about it, EVERYTHING is food, from a blade of grass to cosmic dust. And, those who choose not to eat meat because of the mistreatment of animals, it is a noble idea for sure...but, how do you know that the vegetables you eat do not suffer when you uproot them and chop them up. They are after all living things as well. Sue
Guest guest
I just remebered one incident which is regarding one of the person who met my Pujya Gurudev. the person used to suffer from acute pain in stomach n he would roll down on floor with unbearable pain , his body used to turn blue. He tried all sort of treatments but nothin helped. He had been having such fits all his life. One day he sat in Pujya Gurudev's feet n pleaded to cure these fits of his. He beagn to cry . Then Pujya Gurudev told you want to know ahy such thing happens . He said yes . Come i will take u to one place. He took him to one village. There they enquired abt one person who used to be a Zamindaar who died some 50 years or before. People told them that he was nothin less than a demon. He used to torture evryone. Daily atleast 1000 birds were killed n curry was made from the tongues of these dead birds which he used to eat. Pujya Gurudev told him that in previous birth he was that Zamindaar. They went to his haveli n there the Zamindaars face was totally similar to this person except the moustaches n physical build up. He felt very sorry for his deeds n started crying in deep sorrow. Pujya Gurudev asked him to feed atleast 1000 birds daily n give donations to the poor n needy. Slowly n slowly his pain started decaying n after some years the fits were no longer there. Sue sure that plants too do have life but they can't express there feelings. Animals that die do suffer same like we suffer at time of death. Just because we do not preceive their suffering does not mean that they don't suffer. Not everyone suffers at the time of death. Some welcome it with great joy as they escape the confines of the limited body. Sue
Guest guest
Hi, this is my first note to this mailing list, so bear with me if I am not up to speed on the history of this discussion. Thanks Sue (FREESUE) for a to-the-point message (at least for me.) Honestly, I was hoping this mailing list would be discussing things like how to improve one's prayer life and devotion, about the mystical experience, stories of the saints and so on. I was saddened to find that " Ramakrishna's " mailing list was being spent on arguing (ok, discussing..) about meat-eating. I do have a deep respect for folks who do not eat meat out of love for other living beings. But I am *really* interested in finding that " inner thing " , the Beloved. Wasn't that the whole of the Master's teaching? Anyone else feel similar? Guest guest
Dear Karen, I absolutely agree that whether or not to eat meat is not the meat of such a mail list; however, do not despair: there is other very meaty dialogue which goes on from time to time. Guest guest
Edith, :-) I love your sense of humor!!! (And - thanks -- I just hopped in the middle, so I realize I may have come in at a less 'meaty' time) -- Karen Westend Ashram http://home.earthlink.net/~urbanashram EDTipple wrote: > EDTipple <edtipple > > Dear Karen, > > I absolutely agree that whether or not to eat meat is not the meat of > such a mail list; however, do not despair: there is other very meaty > dialogue which goes on from time to time. > Edith > > --------------------------- ONElist Sponsor ---------------------------- > > ONElist: your connection to people who share your interests. > > ------ > Sri Ramakrishnaye Namah > Vivekananda Centre London > http://www.btinternet.com/~vivekananda/
