Yes, the idea of animal sacrifice is age-old and traditional. But if our spirituality doesn't motivate us to oppose the sufferings of our fellow creatures, then what are we in the religion game for? Again--if God really wants us to kill, not for dharma or even for use, but just to placate Him, what kind of God is that? Clearly the point is not about meat-eating. Nor is it about warfare. It is actually very basic--do we want a God that demands the heads of goats? Frankly, its an easier sacrifice than the giving up of lust and greed.
