Guest guest
a c I agree with your views about sacrifice in temples. In fact the idea can be taken much further. Why pluck and offer flowers to God? If I remember it correctly - someone offered flowers to Sri Ramakrishna who responded saying something like " that may be appropriate offering to higher beings (devas) or dandies ' -- I am neither of these " May be it is better to leave flowers on the plants than pluck them and put them on a plate in front of God? But I admit I have offered flowers to Sri Ramakrishna many a times --- I have ignored his advise! What to do? jay original Message----- Allan Carpenter Tom, While I appreciate your thoughtful post on the Fijans, I have to respectfully part company with you. Yes, the idea of animal sacrifice is age-old and traditional. But if our spirituality doesn't motivate us to oppose the sufferings of our fellow creatures, then what are we in the religion game for? Again--if God really wants us to kill, not for dharma or even for use, but just to placate Him, what kind of God is that? Clearly the point is not about meat-eating. Nor is it about warfare. It is actually very basic--do we want a God that demands the heads of goats? Frankly, its an easier sacrifice than the giving up of lust and greed. But I think Divine mother--and Sri Ramakrishna--would prefer the latter. ac \ --------------------------- ONElist Sponsor ---------------------------- Congratulations to RON MARTINO This week's FRIENDS & FAMILY WINNER!
