Who is to determine who is rajasic and who is tamasic???? I never read any statement by Swamiji in which he indicated dietary rules for the different guna types. That would be entirely out of character for him. If I have missed something in his writings pertaining to this, I would like to know about that. (Reply by Jody) I wish to second this reply. The original " quotation " seems like a parody of Swamiji's actual words. He acknowledged that vegetarianism was the highest ideal, but felt that (at least at the time he was writing) human diet required meat. One has to remember that the science of vegetarian food has vastly improved since his day; we have all sorts of protein meat-substitutes he never had. So whether the above opinion of his would be his today, we cannot say for sure. Namaste, Swami Yogeshananda
Guest guest
How can anyone, much less a householder, like me, dream even of 'comically imitating' a rishi, like Swami Vivekananda ? Guest guest
Swami Yogeshananda has said that the science of vegetarian food has vastly improved since his day, that we have protein meat-substitutes not available in Swamiji's day -- so who knows what he would say today. True though that may be, there are people who cannot digest beans, soy or milk products. Surely Swamiji would not lump them willy-nilly in a lower class if there is nothing they can do about it.
