Dear Karen, Re; " Escapist Vedantists "

There is nothing wrong with being an ‘escapist', as long as we are not trying to

‘escape' from God.

Yes, escape from the idea that we are the ‘psyche'......the psyche is only our

tool, like the computer we are working on, at this moment..

Can one become unbalanced by thinking too much of God?

By constantly chanting the holy names of God, our ‘psyches' will come back on

track....we may favorably compare, the ‘healing / balancing' effects of ‘japa'

on the psyche,

to the benefits of ‘uninstalling' certain elements [on our computer hard drive],

that have become corrupted.

Dwelling on transitory things, will leave us ‘drained and frustrated', every

time !

Dear Tom,

thank you. it is my feeling also that the morass of words can only take one so

far, and then words and concepts only get in the way. Some words of certain

writers have quickened my spiritual feeling because they struck a chord in me --

but that is all their usefulness -- as a springboard. i agree with

you and appreciate your words; i have spent some time after that visit

" escaping " to the wordless formless space for refreshment.

You write:

" By constantly chanting the holy names of God, our ‘psyches' will come back on

track....we may favorably compare, the ‘healing / balancing' effects of ‘japa'

on the psyche,

to the benefits of ‘uninstalling' certain elements [on our computer hard drive],

that have become corrupted. "

When I was getting tired of my friend attempting to psycho-analyze me, I said

(it is true) that as I need to grow -- even psychologically -- these things are

shown by the inner guru. This was not true in the beginning phases of spiritual

life, but it is now, after many years. And they are not a big deal

to me. So, your words above " strike a chord " for me. And -- I must say (being a

software engineer) - I can attest to the benefits of " uninstalling " corrupted

files!!! :-)

I am also familiar with Rajneesh's writings, thanks for the quote. I like his

radicality, similar to my own (external) guru's, and found myself calling upon

some of that kind of radicality during my visit.

Namaste,

Karen
