Dear Gomu,

I am happy to see your appreciation of Swami Prabhavananda's SERMON ON

THE MOUNT, which is a favorite of mine, and of his other writing. You

speak of him in the present tense. Swami Prabhavananda passed away in

Hollywood in 1976, having served in this country from 1923. He was in

San Francisco under Swami Prakashananda from 1923-25, and from there

he went to Portland to open the Vedanta Society of Portland. In 1929

he was asked to come to Hollywood where he started The Vedanta Society

of Southern California and where he remained for the rest of his life,

during which time he started Sarada Convent in Santa Barbara,

California in 1943 and the Ramakrishna Monastery at Trabuco Canyon,

California in 1949. During his tenure in Hollywood, the Vivekananda

House in South Pasadena, California was given to the Society; it is an

historical landmark where Swami Vivekananda stayed while in Los

Angeles in 1900.

I will look forward to THE SERMON... Thank you.

Edith
