Guest guest
The Sermon on the Mount - 0 Hello, This series of posting is based on the book " The Sermon on the Mount - According to Vedanta " by Swami Prabhavananda. The book is copyrighted by Vedanta Society of Southern California, 1946, Vedanta Place, Hollywood, California 90068. (http://www.vedanta.org/) The book is also available from Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=0874810507/indianphilosopanA This material first appeared in the magazine of the Society - Vedanta in the West. Later it was expanded and compiled into this book form. There is also a publication of this book from New American Library under the trademark " Mentor Books " . The Sermon on the Mount is the central doctrine upon which rests the Christian religion. These are the instructions of Christ to his disciples, given in private. The book contains the whole Sermon with explanatory notes for each idea. None in the Ramakrishna-Vivekanada circle needs an introduction about Swami Prabhavananda. He is a monk of the Ramakrishna Order. He has translated several Hindu scriptures into English like the Upanisads, Bhagavat Gita, Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Narada Bhakti Sutras and Srimad Bhagavatam. He has written the biographies of Swami Brahmananda and Swami Premananda. His other books include " Yoga and Mysticism: An introduction to Vedanta " , " Vedic Religion and Philosophy " , " The Spiritual Heritage of India " and " Religion in Practice. " Most of these and related books at Amazon.com can be accessed at http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acropolis/1863/store.html I will post the words from the Bible as given in the book and an explanation in my own words based on the ideas in the book. NOTE THAT THIS SERIES IS NOT STRAIGHT FROM THE BOOK. IN CASE OF ANY DISCREPANCY, PLEASE REFER TO THE BOOK. SWAMI PRABHAVANANDA'S WORDS ARE AUTHORITATIVE. This is being simultaneously posted to ramakrishna and philist . With love, Gomu. -- ---------- Email: gomu Phone: +91 80 6634617 Webpages: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acropolis/1863 http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/2973 ----------
