I want to know which upanishads belong to which veda. Also what are the other texts that constitute these four vedas. They are the philosophic texts of Hinduism which occurs mainly in the end portion of the Vedas (the Aranyaks). Madhava on our list is more suited to give you references but as he has gone to India for his holidays; I will try and give you some information about their location in the Vedas. Muktaponisahd quotes that Rigveda has 10 upanishad Shukal Yajurveda has 19. Krishna Yajurveda has 32, Samveda has sixteen and Atharva Veda has 31. Upanishads: Isha considered to be perhaps the most ancient occurs in Yajurveda (shukal portion) Kena is in the Samaveda (talvakar brahman) Katho is considered to belong to Yajurveda (krishna portion) Prasno is from the Atharvaveda Mundaka comes from the Atharvaveda Mandukya is also in Atharvaveda Taittirya is in Yajurveda (krishna portion) Aitreya comes from Rigveda Chandogya is from Samveda Brahadaranyaka is from Yajurveda (shukala portion) Svetasvatar is from Yajurveda (krishna portion) These are the origins of the 11 well known upanishads. jay Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
