Guest guest
NAMASTE As you all know today is Janmashtami (the date of Lord Krishna's birth). It is celebrated by, aside from other festivities, performing pooja or worship, or spiritual disciplines at midnight, as Krishna was born at midnight. Krishna's lila primarily rerpresents the ideal of intense love for God as exemplified by Radha or Radharani and her companions(the Gopis). Sri Ramakrishna showed perfection in the Madhura Bhava (looking upon God as one's sweet heart). He one day had a blissful vision of Krishna and his luminous body entered into the body of Sri Ramakrishna. Below are some quotes of Sri Krishna which are famous and which I particluarly like. They are from the calendar which I made for Vivekananda Vidyapith. SRI KRISHNA’S TEACHINGS To work alone you have the right, but never claim its results. Let not the results of actions be your motive, nor be attached to inaction. Never return hatred for hatred, nor injury for injury. Desiring thy highest good, thou must strive to free thyself from evil and ignorance. Knowing life to be transitory, wake up from this dream of ignorance and strive to attain knowledge and freedom before death shall claim thee. If a meditative man constantly worships Me (God) through the path of devotion, all the desires of his heart are destroyed, for I reside in his heart. Of all I could name, verily love is the highest- love and devotion that make one forgetful of everything else, love that unites the lover with Me. What ineffable joy does one find through love of Me, the blissful Self! Once that joy is realized, all earthly pleasures fade into nothingness. He who is unchanged by praise or blame, who is silent, content with whatever he has, homeless, having the whole world for his home, firm in his mind, and full of devotion- that man is dear to Me. Non-envious, friendly and compassionate toward all beings, free from ideas of passion and ego consciousness, sympathetic in pain and pleasure, forgiving, always contented, contemplative, self-controlled, of firm conviction, with his mind and intellect dedicated to Me- such a devotee of mine is dear to Me. -Sri Krishna Also, as Swami Vivekananda said, he was the greatest teacher of the Vedanta. On this day, try to assimilate Sri Krishna's teachings, let us remember the divine love of the Gopis, try to cultivate this love, and then pour it out all to the Lord. -Om
Guest guest
Thank you for this, I am printing it out for our bi-weekly public meditation gathering. I like to make note of special days related to all traditions. -- Karen Westend Ashram Vidya123 wrote: > Vidya123 > > NAMASTE > > As you all know today is Janmashtami (the date of Lord Krishna's birth).
