1 I shall briefly set out the salient incidents of Sri Bhagwan's Life here,

(a) as Sri Swaamigal's Life is inextricably intertwined with the Life

of Sri Bhagawan, and,

(b) as the Glory of Sri Swaamigal can be understood well only with

reference to the 'Purpose' and 'Timing' of Sri Bhagawan's Descent on this Earth.

2 Bhagawan Sri Ramana Maharshi attained Self-Realisation in a flash, during a

remarkable 'Death-Expereince' which He suddenly had, when He was just 17 years

old. Within a few months thereafter, He reached Thiruvannamalai, the abode of

Lord Shivaa, worshipped here by the Divine Name. 'Arunaachaleswaraa'. After His

arrival here, He used to observe Silence for most of the time, for many years.

3 He was recognised as a great Sage and as an Embodiment of Lord

Dhakshinaamurthy (Lord Shivaa as a young boy sitting under a tree in absolute

Silence,-as the First Teacher to the 4 Sanakaadhi Rishis, the Mind-Born Sons of

Lord Brahmaa).

4 Some recognised Him as the incarnation of Lord Murugaa/Subrahmanyaa, the

mind-born Son of Lord Shivaa. There is even a poem dictated by someone, but

written by Sri Bhagwan Himself, portraying Him as Lord Murugaa/Subrahmanyaa.

5 Sri Bhagawan descended on this earth, at a time when the Teachings of Aadhi

Shankaraacharyaa on 'Pure Monism' or 'Pure Advaithaa' had been grossly

misunderstood. It could have been due to the insufficient knowledge of the

Sanskrit Language, in which He had written His commentaries.

6 Sri Bhagawan's Personal Experience of Realisation 'happened' to perfectly

coincide with that of Aadhi Shankaraachaaryaa. His Teachings were also exaclty

the same.

7 But, Sri Bhagawan had 'Tamil' as His Mother-Tongue. And also, most of His

Compositions spontaneously flowed from inside 'Him' in Tamil for the first time.

8 His pre-eminent, supremely humble, householder Devotee, Sri Sri

Sivaprakaasam Pillai, was the first one to approach Sri Bhagawan with a question

as to what His Own Teaching as to the Method of attaining the Reality was. The

result was a small booklet of about 5-10 pages, with the title, 'Naan Yaar'

('Who am I?'). This book contains in a 'question-answer' form, the answers of

Sri Bhagawan to the direct questions, posed to Him by the simple-minded Sri Sri

SivaPrakaasam Pillai, seeking to resolve his doubts concerning the method of

attaining the Reality.

9 His another householder Devotee, Sri Muruganaar, was supremely devoted to

Sri Bhagawan. He was a Tamil Teacher in a school in Thiruvannaamalai. He used

to visit Sri Bhagawan daily. He composed wonderful Tamil Poems embodying the

Pearls of Teachings contained in the Daily Divine Utterances of Sri Bhagawan.

Divine Tamil Poetry flowed from Sri Muruganaar in torrents. About a 1000 verses

of Sri Muruganaar, embodying the direct Teachings of Sri Bhagawan, have now come

to be published under the title, 'GuruVaachgakKovai' (The Compendium of Sri

Bhagawan's Divine Utterances)

10 Sri Bhagawan composed a Vedantic Treatise in Tamil, at the request of Sri

Muruganaar, under the title 'Ulladhu Naarpadhu' ('Existence Forty', 40 3-Line

verses on the Real 'Existence').

11 'Who am I?', 'GuruVaachagakKovai', and 'Existence Forty' put together may

be said to be 'Pure Mounds of Sugar' of Sri Bhagawan's Pure Direct Teachings

unmixed with the 'Sand' of Devotee-Author's Opinions, containing detailed

instructions and explanations on,-

(a) the Direct Method of 'Self-Enquiry' recommended as the 'One Method' for All

by Sri Bhagawan, and

(b) the Method of 'Self-Surrender' to those endowed with an overwhelming

'Devotional Attitude'.

12 It was Sri Swaamigal who brought out, for the first time, the truths set

out in 7-11 above, explicitly to the world, by segregating them from the other

works, into which other philosphies and methods had somehow crept in, by

inadvertence or otherwise.

Final Posting on the 'Incalculable Service to Humanity' by Sri Swaamigal,

through His 'Immortal Original Works' to follow.
