Guest guest
The Sermon on the Mount - 6 The Salt of the Earth (Matthew 5:13-37) - Part 1 [ Ye are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has lost its savour, [ wherewith shall it be salted ? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but [ to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Jesus is talking to his close disciples, whom he has chosen to lead others. The teacher sees not what the disciple is, but what potentials he has. Having the potential is not enough. It is self-effort that makes it manifest. Jesus is prodding his disciples to put this self-effort and manifest their potential. This words can be compared to the verse " Klaibyam ... " , where Krishna says, " Shake off this cowardice. It is beneath your standard. " This class of words have miraculous effect. It puts an erring person back on the track in a very positive way. It reminds the person of what he is capable of and at the same time points at the lack of earnestness. [ Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hil cannot be hid. [ Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a [ candlestick; and it giveth light undo all that are in the house. A realised soul does not advertise that he is realised and people can come to him. He may do so out of Grace for suffering humanity, but it is not a necessity. Spiritual aspirants and people weary of the burden of the world naturally come to realised souls to help themselves. Jesus sees that people will flock around his disciples for spiritual upliftment. He has lit the candle in the hearts of his disciples, and wants to give the light to other spiritual aspirants through them. -- ---------- Email: gomu Phone: +91 80 6634617 Webpages: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acropolis/1863 http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/2973 ----------
