The Sermon on the Mount - 7

 

The Salt of the Earth (Matthew 5:13-37) - Part 2

 

[ Let your light so shine before men, that they see your good works, and

[ glorify your Father which is in heaven.

 

These are two aspects to any institutionalised religion - Spirituality and

Service. These go hand in hand. Spirituality is the personal aspect and

Service is the social aspect. The general public see the good activities

and through them get to know the people behind it. For the people involved,

the Service side acts as a great cleansing agent for the mind. As Jesus

says, a tree is known by its fruit. General public can appreciate spiritual

life only if it manifests in the form of service. It is important that

spiritual life be recognised by the general public, because without this

link, the lust, greed and ego will take an upper hand in the society. Also,

it the general public who physically sustain the spiritually minded people.

This is well reflected in the twin organisations - Ramakrishna Math and

Mission.
