Guest guest
Hello everyone, A butcher is after a cow. She runs for her life and passes a Sadhu -Monk -on her way. The butcher also reaches the spot. It is a bifurcation. Not sure which way to follow, he asks the Monk if he had seen the cow. The monk realizes that if he told the truth the cow would lose her life. Hence the Monk directs the butcher towards the wrong path. Believing that a Sadhu would never speak a lie, the butcher goes in the direction opposite to that cow had taken. The life of the cow is saved. But that day and the next, the butcher's family goes without food and money. Is the monk justified in speaking the lie? dr c s s -- ==================================== E-magazine on science and spirituality. Guest guest
This is typical kind of question where really beginners in spiritual path like us will end up dilemma about what to do, But if my openion has to be given I would give like this , The Monk didn't justify in speaking lie?, I feel one has to fallow his Dharma, that is what butcher was doing, and Monks Dharma is not to tell lie It is true that if it is the case saving someone's life we can tell lie, but in this case Monk might have saved cow's life for that moment, by telling a lie but he can't save it everyday at the hands of Butcher. If really monk wanted to save cow's life he should preached Butcher to not to kill cow. sarvam vasudevamayam jagath Prashanth > > Hello everyone, > A butcher is after a cow. Guest guest
It's too confusing , rather i am confused. I think by telling which way cow has gone he will be generating paap or punyaa for himself. Istead of butcher he has become the main part in the life or death of cow. But he does that to save the life of cow irrespective of wat he will fetch out of it. Butcher n his family won't die out of hunger but cow surely would die if monk tells the so called truth. Noone is hurt here just butcher lives to his fate. I think even if sadhu told without any attachment which way the cow went then sadhu will be generating a mixture of Paap n Punya n mokshaa. I think sadhu was right in telling the so called lie. It carries more weight. > Dr C S Shah <drcssha > > A butcher is after a cow. She runs for her life and passes a Sadhu -Monk > -on her way. But i guess the situation of sadhu answering which way cow went will be unaviodable in this story.
