" It would seem that the practise of restricting the study of the Vedas to certain castes was a self isolating one as probably it would currently not occur to many to study them as that's what the priest does... The required rituals and prayers and the correct pronunciation while confering certain special prerogatives on the priest also further isolate him. thus the practising Hindu while looking to his Temple as the heart of his religion abandones his own personal religious search and practices? The same could be said of traditional Christianity, Judaism and Buddhism which also have priestly traditions... " leave it to the priests " reduces the responsibility of the individual believer. Performing the rituals is also a costly affair and one that has traditionally earned the bread of the priest. - Art lgregory
Guest guest
<<< According to the Vedas none but a brahmin can be liberated. >>> Nowhere in Upanishads such conditionalities are put. As the intellect evolves the rituals also change. Today scientific analysis or methods are (acting as) rituals and, therefore, the cry: Advaita Vedanta is a Science as any other physical science; That Science and Vedanta shall shake hands. What is essential is to attempt, leaving everything else, to transcend one's human consciousness so as to get established in altered state of consciousness which is different than human consciousness. In that state there is more beatitude, more bliss, and more values. dr c s s ==================================== E-magazine on science and spirituality.
