Guest guest
Swami Vivekananda did not write many poems, and few he composed were the products of intense spritual or emotional experience. His poetry, though slight in volume, contains gems of rare value.HIS bengali prose was published in " UDBODHAN " and later collected in four books :1. Bhabhar Katha (Matter of Thought), 2. Parivagraha (Memoirs of European Travel) 3. Pradya O Paschaya (The East and the West) 4. Vartaman Bharata (Modern India) Here is one of his Poems (Excerpted from The Songs of the Sanyasin) THE SONG OF THE SANYASIN BY SWAMI VIVEKANANDA Wake up the note! the song that had its birth Far off, where worldly taint could never reach. In mountain caves and glades of forest deep, Whose calm no sigh for history or wealth or fame Could ever dare to break, where rolled the stream Of knowledge, truth and bliss that follows both, Sing high note, Sanyasin bold! say... Om Tat Sat Om. Where seekest thou? That freedom, friend, this world Nor that can give. In books and temples vain, Thy search - Thine only is the hand that holds The rope that drags thee on. The cease lament, Let go thy hold, sanyasin bold! Say... Om tat Sat Om. Have thou no home, What can hold thee, friend? The sky thy roof. the grass thy bed, and food What chance may bring, well-cooked or ill, judge not. No food or drink can taint that noble Self Which knows itself. Like rolling river free Thou ever be, Sanyasin bold! Say... Om Tat Sat Om.
