Guest guest
Saprema Namaskar I am sending this again as members who receive in digest form would not have been able to access the attachment. For those who have read it, sorry for the repetition. R. Dinakaran More than 100 years ago, Swami Vivekananda promised the citizens of (then) Madras that a temple would be set up in the City for his guru and yugavatar Sri Ramakrishna. The pledge was fulfilled, and Swamiji entrusted the nurturing of the new centre to his brother - disciple Swami Ramakrishnananda (Shashi Maharaj). Started in the Triplicane area, the Math finally found an idyllic setting at Mylapore thanks to the charitable Condiah Shetty. However, the original Math building had to be demolished after a few years and a new (present) one constructed in its place. As the number of devotees continued to swell over the years, the Math authorities decided to build a grander temple to accommodate more devotees. The new temple is almost complete and the grand kumbhabhishekham is set for February 7 of the new millennium. A week-long programme has been drawn up at which at least 30,000 devotees are expected to participate. Monks of the Ramakrishna Order from various centres will also attend. Chennai -- and entire South India -- has played a major role in the propagation of Sri Ramakrishna's philosophy of " all religions leading to one God " . It was the citizens of this fortunate city that facilitated Swami Vivekananda's historic journey to Chicago for the World Religious Congress. The new temple would be another grand landmark/ achievement for all of us to cherish. G. KARUNAMOY No.3, Raja Street Robertsonpet R.A.
