General Relativity will say we live in a four dimensional world made of Space+Time and the curvature within this four dimensions produces the feeling that there is force of attraction between bodies called gravitation. So gravitational force can be reduced to sheer geometry. Then we have the idea of sub atomic particles - here the other most interesting theory of modern physics takes over. This theory is called quantum mechanics. It is the most wonderful and exciting thing in Physics today. This is not the right place to discuss the theory but one of the conclusions of this theory is:- The smaller the unit of space~time you take and examine the greater is the force ~ energy you encounter. So you keep reducing the space/time unit -- go to smaller and smaller scale and the fun begins. You encounter higher and higher energies. This just pops out of the blue. Try and get to say an almost point like particle and we come close to holding infinity in our hands. This is not just theory - it is a matter of experimental observations. Where does this infinite power hide? How can it do so in such small infinitesimal confines of space/time? (The vedic verse greater than the greatest and yet smaller than the smallest comes to mind) Remember what Swami Vivekananda had said, " The distinction we make in what we call external (the outside world of matter) and what we call internal is arbitrary. Exactly where does external stop and internal begin? Where is the demarcation line? " What science is coming face to face is the same vibrant Reality the rishis have experienced. There are no two separate realities one called external (which science can handle) and the other called internal(which is referred to as spiritual). This is the reason why I have tremendous love for Physics - I feel that this is the way for the next millennium - the interest in spirituality will come about via Physics! jay
