Six months after Rakhal came, Narendra (Swami Vivekananda) met Sri

Ramakrishna for the first time. Both Naren and Rakhal were happy that they

live under the guidance of Sri Ramakrishna. Once they went with Sri

Ramakrishna to temple. There Rakhal prostated before the Mother. Naren was

shocked to see it. Naren remembered that both he and Rakhal had taken oath

in Brahma Samaj that they will not engage in idol worship. Naren told this

to Rakhal and was very angry with him. Rakhal was silent. Naren did not

know the spiritual bliss that Rakhal got under the guidance of Sri

Ramakrishna. So Rakhal did not argue with Naren. Sri Ramakrishna noticed

this and he talked to Naren about this and convinced him about the need of

idol worship.

 

In two years, Rakhal's spiritual experiences grew. He totally forgot about

his wife. So Rakhal's wife visited him at Dakshineshwar in front of Sri

Ramakrishna. Bhagwan told them that, Rakhal has lost his interest in the

wordly affairs, and he has reached a higher stage in his spritual life.

But Bhagwan also felt that Rakhal has some duties to do regarding his

wife. So he asked Rakhal to visit his wife often. Now Rakhal began to

think about his wife and her future. He could not come to a conclusion. So

he asked Bhagwan for guidance. But Sri Ramakrishna refused to give any

advice. So Rakhal went home and prayed continously for three days.

Suddenly his mind became clear. He realised that the world is nothing but

the play of Mother. He also realised that there is no need for him to

stay in this married life. He also realised that his wife is capable of

protecting herself. Then his mind attained total peace. He at once bid

farewell to his wife and went to Dakshineshwar. Sri Ramakrishna knew

exactly what happened. So welcomed him with a smile.
