Excerpted from the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna p.133

The Master Said:

" Do you know how a lover of God feels? His attitude is:

'O God, Thou art the Master, and I am Thy servant.

Thou art the Mother, and I am Thy child.' Or again:

'Thou art my Father and Mother. Thou art the Whole,

and I am a part.'

He doesn't like to say, 'I am Brahman' "

Hypnotism

I heard a lecture on hypnotism n came with some thoughts.

The extent to which a subject carries out the commands of

hypnotiser depends on the imagination n strength of the mind of boy. Boy

needed to be given a thought n brought in to the hypnotic state

(deeper level of mind). Here the boy has been connected to the outer world

through the help of hpnotiser. Hynotiser is a communication link

btw the hypnotised person n outer world. Also in hypnotic sleep the

mind of the subject is in total control of hypnotiser the control will

be

much more if the subject has done that willingly. i think Because of this

connection with the hypnotiser, mind of the subject is stationary on one

thought n it's not wandering n we can see the power of mind when

concentrated on single thought. I think Miracles happen in hynotism for

the mind of the hypnotised person in just concentrated on single thought

n

the thought is the one which has been given by the hypnotiser n also that

our ego doesn't interfere in btw to destroy the strength of thought.

( We can check this by asking a hynotiser to ask the subject to think

abt many things n then ask him to do some task. I guess the result will

not be that gr8 as it was when only single task was given to

subject. It can be dangerous too for the subject may get lost in the many

thoughts and may not respond to hynotiser but i guess it may not be

dangerous because then the

control of mind will get transferred to the subject himself n the subject

will then go in to state of normal sleep frm the hynotised sleep and

the subject will wake up all well after the sleep is over and since

the body and mind are not tired therefore the person will very soon return

to normal waking condition frm the hynotic sleep.)

We can do the same thing ourselves w/o the need of hynotiser if we

learn to control our mind n concentrate on single thought. This is

one of the things which we gain in meditation. We r going in to

unconscious but we r still conscious. I guess meditation is

something like self hypnosis. In meditation our mind will wander for it's

our mind n we have the acess to our mind so all that is in mind will

pop up now we have to control our mind by just concentrating on single

thought which is pious n all perfect. It's very important that the

thought on which one is concentrating be all pious n perfect for

if that is not the case then the probability of mind getting lost in

thoughts which r already present in one's psyche will be high.

I guess the results of hypnosis can decay for it's not something

that belongs to us but the results of Meditation will stay with us for

longer duration for it's something that we have done ourselves.

Results of hypnosis n meditation will decay unless we change our

conscious life style n thoughts.

There r two minds n depending on their degree of waking we will go in to

different levels of counciousness. Something like we will experience

different degree of temp when we put two hands in to separate beakers

containing fluids n the temp of two fluids is varied.

Anuragji Namaste !

Excellent article !

It is so very true about the concentrating of one's mind on one

objective.

All great scientific and religious inspirations

have come from this very process.

Also all the great political achievements of individuals

[both good and bad] can be directly attributed to this

discipline. In modern times, we call it 'focusing'.

Here is a frightening thought: I believe that any person,

who sets his/her mind to something, keeping only the future

objective in focus, eliminating all other irrelevancies,

will achieve anything desired.

Case in point: " Adolf Hitler " . Now, here is a man who formed his

ideas, while crouching in the muddy trenches of France, during the

1914-18 war. In the following years, he took step after careful step,

always keeping his objective in mind. Surrounding himself only with

those who were useful to his plan, he ignored all distracting

influences.

Totally concentrated on his goal, was this human aberration,

consumed by the fires of ignorance, hatred and vengeance.

And yet, this 'Austrian Corporal in the Bavarian Army' was given

the 'keys to the kingdom'. Why ?

Because he willed it !

While others were having a good time, he was slowly plodding

along to his destiny.....!

Now, tell me, isn't that a frightening thought ?
