Guest guest
Dear list members, I have attempted a crude translation of my own poem in Hindi written at the time of my introduction to Vedanta - in 1993. I know the members are broad-minded and praise whatever good there is even in an ordinary attempt. dr c s s FOOT STEPS They do not leave any mark Nor do they manifest their form The foot steps follow me as silent music Jingle, Jingle, Jingle, Jingle; When I walk they become clearly audible When I stop They also fade But of late, they do not leave me Even in incessant noise of metropolis; I decided to fathom their origin And went away from the noisy streets Far away through jungle, in search All alone, carefully listening to the source; Now the sweet music was all around In trees and bushes, in leaves and flowers I wondered how these foot steps Became all encompassing?; I asked the Koel, " Are you the foot step?' " No " , said the bird, " I am also in its search " I asked the spring, " Do you know the foot step? " " No " , replied the brooke, " I also search the same! " ; Trees, shrubs, flowers, and creeper Directions, Sky, Earth, and Air All gave the similar answer None could fathom the origin of Jingle Jingle Jingle Jingle; Thus exhausted, defeated, I fell asleep In the bed of rocks on the earth Deep in the dream There arose music from my heart Of those foot steps Of the sweet cuckooing of the bird Of the mischievous flow of the spring Of the primordial Om of the Universe And I realized as I awoke That the music was always with me! Silently, now, the foot steps were receding. dr c s shah -- =^=^=^=^=^ E-magazine on science and spirituality.
