Guest guest
1) Father tells his son, 'dear me, the mango is very sweet.' The son has faith in the words of his father, he picks up a mango, eats it and thus converts his faith of the sweetness of mango to knowledge of the same. This is achieved within minutes, but the knowledge obtained is small -that of a taste of a fruit only. The required preparation and effort was accordingly negligible. 2) A teacher tells his students that liver is positioned in the right upper quadrant of abdomen. The student has faith in the words of the teacher. He converts this faith in knowledge when he gets the chance to dissect the dead body in dissection hall. This takes a few days to weeks. Required efforts and the preparation accordingly are more and somewhat arduous. But the knowledge obtained is also more. The student not only learns about the liver, he gets the knowledge of stomach, intestines, and all the viscera with their inter-relations, etc. 3) Scientists say that the moon is 'xyz' miles away from the earth. We have faith in the knowledge of the scientists. However, it is not easy to convert this faith into direct knowledge. Most of us carry out our calculations on the basis of assumptions. Only a few students and research scientists can convert this faith into knowledge. It requires immense preparation and energy to achieve this. But the knowledge obtained also is tremendous. Applying these concepts to science of spirituality, 4) We have to have initial faith in the teachings and sayings of the persons who have/had realized the spiritual truths. Two options are open to us now; one, to attempt to convert our faith into realization of those truths in our lives; or to continue to lead life on the basis of faith and reap the benefits. It will take any period of time, long preparation and arduous efforts to convert our faith about Self in to real knowledge of direct Experience. It depends upon our efforts, capacity, and aptitude, etc. The benefit will be unimaginable, though! " By knowing which, nothing more remains to be known! " , so says one Upanishad. -- =^=^=^=^=^ E-magazine on science and spirituality.
