Angel and Heaven

One night the Angel came in my dream

And offered me a place in the Heaven

" Come with me, " he said.

 

I inquired: Why this favour to me?

Many others are pious on this earth

Deserving to ascend to that height,

And willing too!

 

Angel spoke: You have not thought evil of anyone,

 

I replied: 'But I have helped none.'

 

Angel said: " You did not quarrel nor did you fight

For wealth or possessions. "

 

I replied: 'But I have not waged war against injustice

or corruption.'

 

Angel said: " You lived with simplicity, honesty,

and morality. "

 

I replied: 'But these virtues were born out of fear

and cowardice.'

 

Angel said philosophically: " Right and wrong, good and bad

Are all but two sides of the same coin. "

 

Then it's OK, said I.

'Let's go to Heaven, for I have heard,

It is the right place for weak and escapists!'
