But he suddenly stopped visiting. The change seemed mysterious. Disciple asked Mother the reason of it. Mother said: " It is due to his past Karma. It has overwhelmed him at last ... " " But, " said the disciple, " If everything is according to the will of God, why then does He not destroy his Karma? " " Yes, " the Mother rejoined, " He can destroy it, if He wills. But then just see how even the Master (Sri Ramakrishna) had to suffer the consequences of his action. His elder brother Ramkumar suffering from high malignant fever was drinking water. Fearing that water would aggravate the illness, the Master snatched the glass away from his hand. This displeased his brother very much. He said, 'just as you have refused me water now, so shall you be unable to eat anything in your last days.' The Master said, 'I did it for your good. Why did you curse me?' His brother began to cry and replied, 'I do not know why this curse came out of my lips.' This was, however, fulfilled. The Master had to suffer for his karma.
