Guest guest
The last few days have seen an exchange on Brahman and Atman by Edith and Vinaire. I am reminded of Thakurji's lucid explanation on the relation between the two > He likens Brahman analogous to the vast space that we see around us and Atman as the space with limitations - His example is that of the space enclosed by a pot. Thakurji goes on to say that we might make all sorts of distinctions between Brahman and Atman but they are for our intellectual satisfaction. Space is just space whether it is " Pot space " or the vastness beyond. Further he says the pot is analogous to our 3 personalities (Body Mind and Intellect - Physical, Mental and Intellectual) enveloping our Spiritual personality. The pot has to break into its elements some time just like our body, mind and intellect has to dissolve into its elements. Our goal then is to " experience " that the " Pot space " is just the vast space beyond - " The oneness of Spirit " and not focus on the pot itself (our body mind and intellect) Regards Sreedhar
Guest guest
Yes, that is an excellent analogy by Thakurji. Brahman may be compared to Atman in tha same way as a vast space may be compared to a 'pot of space'. But to think the vastness space is Brahman would be a totally incorrect interpretation of what Thakurji meant. Brahman is not space. Brahman is the creator of space.
