Guest guest
With the latest posting from Ananta - we can see how Swami Vivekananda was struggling with lack of suitable scientific vocabulary 100 years ago when he gave this speech. What we understand now as modern science and the terms etc. were not invented. Swami Vivekananda gave most of these talks in 1895/6 while new Physics was born in 1905. The idea that if you approach the speed of light - you are operating with infinite energy (thread of spider's web can be as forceful as steel as he puts it!) was still not known. The idea that matter and energy are interchangable was not known too. Matter is now seen as coiled up energy. Comparing these findings with what he said 100 years ago is very interesting! It is interesting to see how he sees force 'solidifying' as matter. jay ananta <sarada <snip> Rather it is possible to demonstrate that what we call matter does not exist at all. It is only a certain state of force. Solidity, hardness, or any other state of matter can be proved to be the result of motion. Increase of vortex motion imparted to fluids gives them the force of solids. A mass of air in vortex motion, as in a tornado, becomes solid-like and by its impact breaks or cuts through solids. A thread of a spider's web, if it could be moved at almost infinite velocity, would be as strong as an iron chain and would cut through an oak tree. Looking at it in this way, it would be easier to prove that what we call matter does not exist. But the other way cannot be proved. <snip>
